Tinkerlands - How To Unlock The Maintenance Is Actually So Expensive Achievement! Check Description!
3In order to unlock the Maintenance Is Actually So Expensive achievement, you must fully upgrade your ship. You will need to upgrade your ship a total of 3 times, so I will list out which materials you will need to for each upgrade below, as well as where to find them.
QUICK NOTE: I have end game gear in the video at the start because I had to start a new world to get the video of the first upgrade. Just wanted to mention this because the start of the game will be quite a bit tougher if this is your first time playing. Make sure that you are using Life Flowers you find to increase your max HP, as well as mining ore and materials for better gear!
Before you can start upgrading your ship, you will first need to repair it. At the start of the game, your boat is wrecked, and you will need to get the Carpenter NPC to be able to fix it. The Carpenter can be found in the cave of the starting island. You can find the cave in the tundra biome, and it is being blocked by a boulder that you will need an iron pickaxe to break. Break the boulder, and you can access the cave.
Go in the cave, and start making your way towards the middle of the map. You will eventually find an area that have webs on the flooring and walls. Look for a spider nest with a wiggling cocoon in the middle. Interact with the cocoon, and the Mineral Spider boss fight will start. Kill the Mineral Spider, and then use the Spider Omni-tool that it drops to break the cocoon. You will free the Carpenter, and he will want to join your base. Leave the cave.
At some point while playing, make a room for the Carpenter and have him move in. Talk with the Carpenter, and you will complete the quest Fixing The Ship. You will now have access to your boat! After the quest is finished, once again talk to the Carpenter, and choose "Quest." The Carpenter says that he can upgrade your ship, but it will cost materials. I will list below the materials, and how to get them.
1) 99 Wood - Just chop down trees in the FOREST area of the starting map. Make sure it is just wood, and not something like fir wood.
2) 60 String - Chop down small plants, bushes and trees to get leaves. Use a Work Station to turn the leaves into string.
3) 30 Copper Ingots - Mine out Copper and use a furnace to turn the ore into ingots.
4) 30 Iron Ingots - Mine out iron and use a furnace to turn the ore into ingots.
5) 30 Gold Ingots - Mine out gold and use a furnace to turn the ore into ingots.
Once you have all of these ingredients, go and talk to the Carpenter and choose "Deliver." Now, choose "Complete" after you get the Ship Upgrade: Storage Room alert. The Carpenter will fly to your ship on his bird and upgrade it.
After the ship is upgraded, speak with the Carpenter again, and he will ask for more materials to upgrade your ship again.
1) 99 Nightmare Wood - This can be found on the Ghostlands island. Chop down trees on the island.
2) 50 Carpentry Materials - You can only get them by purchasing them off of the Carpenter. This will cost you 50 gold, so make sure to save up!
3) 30 Spectral Ingot - Mine the ore on the Ghostlands island and then use a, Enchanted Furnace to turn the ore into ingots.
Once you have all of these ingredients, go and talk to the Carpenter and choose "Deliver." Now, choose "Complete" after you get the Ship Upgrade: Cellar alert. The Carpenter will fly to your ship on his bird and upgrade it.
After the ship is upgraded, speak with the Carpenter again, and he will ask for more materials to upgrade your ship again.
1) 99 Coral Wood - This can be found on the Coraline Fields island. Chop down trees on the island.
2) 99 Carpentry Materials - You can only get them by purchasing them off of the Carpenter. This will cost you 99 gold, so make sure to save up!
3) 30 Coralite Ingots - You can mine the ore in the underground area of the Coraline Fields. To access it, you will need to get a fire, water, wind and earth scale from killing the 4 different turtle enemies on the island. Once you have 1 of each scale, find a turtle statue and interact with the pedestals to open the statue's mouth. Enter the mouth. Mine the Coralite ore found in the walls in this area. Use an Enchanted Furnace to turn the ore into ingots.
Once you have all of these ingredients, go and talk to the Carpenter and choose "Deliver." Now, choose "Complete" after you get the Ship Upgrade: Cellar Expansion alert. The Carpenter will fly to your ship on his bird and upgrade it, and the achievement will unlock!
