Tobor From Schaper 1978 History, Retro Review, Teardown & Restoration. Tobor is Robot Backwards
Retro Tech Toy Review!
Tobor was a toy robot produced by Schaper Toys in 1978 to take advantage of the "science fiction craze". The toy was approximately nine inches high and could be controlled by loud noises or by a control box. Tobor was one of the first toys to feature an inexpensive remote-control, using Schaper's "telesonic" system. However, it was more of a "Clapper" feature that swiched the unit from traveling forwards to traveling in circles. The idea would be re-used with other (but cheaper) RC cars.

I have found a few stories about these units being hard to control. Even adults had difficulty getting it to work correctly, and if you managed to retrieve the support box with him, it was more by luck than by skill. The price of the unit was around $15 USD but could be seen being sold for more, depending on what store you found it in. After Christmas it could be found for about $5
