It is a remake/remaster of the original Toki Arcade game, originally developed by Golgoth Studio but later finished and released by Microïds and Mr. Nutz Studio.

This game is, for the most part, a 1x1 recreation of the Arcade original, featuring the same levels and enemies.

Golgoth Studio first announced the game in 2009, plannig a release in 2010.
After many delays, Golgoth Studio closed in 2016, then in April 2018, the French publisher Microïds announced that they had took over work on the game and would release it for the Nintendo Switch. The game officially released in November 2018 in physical format and in December of the same year digitally.
