Tool Battery Camera Converter | Build With Me
10Grab a hot drink and join me in building this Ryobi tool battery converter for my camera rig!
This is my alternative to the more traditional V-mount power solution. In addition to just being a fun and interesting challenge, this solution is more affordable and convenient for an existing owner of a large collection of tool batteries.
There are 3 buck (DC to DC) converters inside the assembly, all wired in parallel to the 18V tool battery and supplying voltages of 7.3V, 12V and 9V. Equipment can be connected to this device via the DC barrel jacks. along the side The chassis was designed and printed using Fusion 360.

I actually shot the majority of this video more than a year ago. This project has been in this sort-of-completed state since then; there were so many issues I ran into, trying to put together a cohesive video. Even editing it now, seeing my past self encounter all these hurdles at the workbench is exhausting. But seeing the concept come together is equally as satisfying now as it was a year ago. And with that, I hope you find a cozy watch in this 26 minute cut too. :)

The design being presented is my first iteration of this device and I've already encountered numerous issues pertaining to the structural integrity and reliability/tolerances of the chassis. Additionally, there are no safety features built into this design; accidentally connecting a camera to the 12V port can be catastrophic.
