Torchlight Frontiers Announced for PS4, But No One Quite Knows What It Is
1Popular role-playing game franchise Torchlight is finally making the jump from PC to PlayStation, but perhaps not in the form many would have wanted. For those out of the loop, Torchlight is comparable to Diablo, with hordes of enemies and randomised dungeons playing a part.
But again, it's unclear whether Torchlight Frontiers, the newly announced game, is sticking to series tradition. The trailer's YouTube description reads: "Torchlight Frontiers combines the heart of the beloved Torchlight series with a shared, persistent and dynamically generated world. In true Torchlight style, players will team up with friends and devoted pets to hack and slack their way through a vibrant world, discover ancient ruins of lost civilizations and brave dungeons filled with riches and dangerous creatures."
Some are speculating that this is some kind of MMO-esque spin-off, and the wording does back that line of thinking up to an extent. The trailer itself certainly doesn't tell us much.
It's also worth pointing out that the developer behind Torchlight and Torchlight II, Runic Games, was shut down almost a year ago. Frontiers is being cooked up by a new studio, Echtra Games. Needless to say, long-time fans are somewhat sceptical.
