After a total failure of a 4-hour run through Layer 8, I learned a lot of lessons which helped me absolutely murder the next attempt, and obtain my Corridor Creeper (maw mount) as a solo frost mage.

I had a lot of good luck with offensive powers, tilesets (soulforges x2) and bosses, but my #1 lesson learned is this: take plenty of Sapphire Prisms to increase your Mirror Images, but DO NOT take Polished Handmirror, which makes your mirror images "intelligent." It makes them do incredible damage, but it also prevents them from taunting threat off you. With 10+ mirror images, and cooldown reduction via Timeweaver's Needle, your army of tanks is almost always active and keeping threat off you. If you have good enough offensive powers, you don't need their damage. #2, don't underestimate the value of Constellation Shield; in this video I had 3 stacks, which reduces damage taken by 60% for 20 seconds every time I interrupt a spell.
