In this chapter, Torin descends into Pergola, where he quickly solves a conflict between the local lilliputian inhabitants and Princess Leenah, calming down the nerves of the former while also falling in love at first sight with the latter. Unfortunately, any time for romantic feelings has to be cut short, as Torin has to solve another phenocryst puzzle to send Leenah up home and get himself one more level below - to the lava-filled volcano land of Asthenia, chock-full of tedious mazes and platform-based puzzles. Eventually managing to tear himself out of that dreary place, Torin crosses over to his final destination, the core world of Tenebrous... where, somehow, he immediately lands in jail for unwarranted cruelty to the local plants. So much for cultural tourism.
