The vikings and their forefather fought on land and at sea, using the great speed and mobility of their longboats to launch surprise attacks. In pitched battle against eachother however, they tied their ships together and tried to clear the enemy ships of their crew. Being well-manned with Vikings that could both row and fight, a Viking boarding party was a terrible and dedicated melee force that would either conquer, die by sword, axe and spear or be swallowed up by the sea. Many a king met his end fighting on his flagship.
