Total War- Records of Three Kingdoms Blitzkrieg! Capturing a (level 4) castle! Legendary Difficulty!
Hi all. in this video I show you a standard idea about how to capture a city using mainly shock cavalry units under command of two vanguards and of course a siege unit led by a strategist. in finishing a legendary campaign, the most important thing is the timing of your operations, you don't want to waste 1-2 turns on besieging a castle, you want a quick and decisive victory so you can be able to use your army next turn. armies are expensive and heavy thus you don't want your economy to feel a lot of pressure by just maintaining them without any gain. this is the famous Chang'an castle , the capitol of Dong Zhuo's faction. a typical level 4 city (without garrison units or any generals inside) so the idea you see in this video can be used in any other similar operation and for any other location with minor differences.
the main points about this idea:
1- do not trust their gates. they always have their oil traps & wooden stakes ready & hidden near them and entering from them would be suicidal.
2- what you have to do with your artillery unit is to make two ways for your forces into their position. breaking the walls only in one point wont be helpful , because the defenders will be able to cover it easily by putting all of their spear units near that position , so your cavalry units wont be totally successful and you will have to accept heavy casualties then.
3- after breaking the walls , you send your shock cavalry units with full speed to spot the exact location of the defending units , then you enter from the hole that is unprotected. the point is they wont be able to cover both holes because of their distance and the speed of your cavalry units. they are on foot, you are mounted !
4- the melee units must also start running immediately and enter from the other point. in the meantime , your archers must get closer ,preferably with loose formation and start firing at the defenders. ignore the towers ,just focus on eliminating the defenders and reducing their morale by firing fire arrows upon them.
5- the next phase is to send your two vanguards in, now that you have made sure that there is no threat to their life and the enemy has suffered a little bit is the right time to hit the final and fatal blow with the generals.
6- the key is speed, it is a "Blitzkrieg ", every second matters so you are going to need a lot of right decisions to be made in every phase of the operation. during all of these the job of the artillery unit is to keep firing at different positions in the castle to reduce the morale of the defenders and cause damage to the settlement. you want your strategist to just wait and observe the operation from afar , getting them involved can be disastrous.
this idea guarantees the success and reduces the number of casualties significantly. delegating (auto-resolving) the operations like this , or doing them in a bad way can cause you a lot of unnecessary casualties or in more severe cases to delaying your success or even worse , to lose a whole campaign.
thank you for watching!
