Tottenham were WRONG to sack Mauricio Pochettino
Tottenham Hotspur are the famous underachievers. In the Premier League era, they have won two League Cups and get bandied into the big 6. A big 6, presumably, based on financial prosperity, rather that trophy accumulation. HOWEVER – Mauricio Pochettino had dragged Tottenham Hotspur out of the doldrums. They had qualified for the Champions League for the first time in 2010 but it was Pochettino who returned them to Europe’s top table and kept a reservation there. They failed at the group stage then showed “the history of Spurs” as Giorgio Chiellini put it, to Juventus in the following last 16. They may have fell at the final hurdle in 2016 and in 2017 in the Premier League.
But let us not forget that Tottenham were only not European Champions because of a superb Jurgen Klopp team in 2019, losing the final. Let us not forget that Tottenham were only not English champions because of a superb Antonio Conte tactical revolution in 2017. Spurs, now, remain the bridesmaids, now firmly out of the Champions League once Mauricio Pochettino has departed, chucked out by Daniel Levy in the November rain for Jose Mourinho – a serial winner, who won precisely nothing.
