Touhou 4: Lotus Land Story - Playthrough (longplay) as Marisa (Illusion Laser) [Normal; Good ending]

This is the forth part of the Touhou series, and I said it already: this is where the legend was born. The second part has a lot of flaws, this is the first game of the series that has all the mechanics that make a Touhou game what it actually is. Focus mechanic, much more enemy projectiles, patterns that simpler to understand and adapt own tactic to them, but still look very hard, deathbombing (or bomb reflect) mechanic, and add to all of this already interesting story, charming heroines, and GOODLY AWESOME MUSIC. THIS IS A MASTERPIECE!.. I have heard that only 200-300 copies were sold. I can barely believe that, to be honest.
The series takes place in Gensokyo, mysterious place separated from the real world with a magic barrier. Gensokyo is a crossroad of worlds where reality and dreams intertwine, where everything supernatural can live that cannot survive anywhere else. That's why Gensokyo is filled with yokai and has connection with Hell and Makai, the world of demons. At least, this is the PC-98 conception.
The story of this particular game: a mystic mansion named Mugenkan appeared out of nowhere, and it caused appearance of many ghosts and youkai. Hakurei Reimu - Eternal Shrine Maiden - headed there to stop the supernatural and completely seal the mansion, since evil spirits extermination is her specialization. But it turned out that Magician of Red Dreams Kirisame Marisa also headed there, attracted by magic that can be felt from the mansion. Her aim is to get more power.
I played as Kirisame Marisa with the Illusion Laser sub-weapon. A rare case amongst the Touhou characters, but Marisa is a human. She wants to be strong, but, unlike Reimu, she is not as talanted, that's why she became a pupil and a servant of Mima, Charming Evil Spirit, Reimu's nightmare, although Marisa is not really a villian type, more like an antiheroine. In fact, she is quite friendly, and quickly became friends with Reimu.
This is probably the first time, when Marisa acted on her own, not under Mima's care. Since she became already strong enough to fight on equal terms with her mentor, she became more arrogant compared to previous parts, although arrogance is probably an integral part of all the Touhou girls possess power. And she got some really epic lines! Just look at this - 22:06
Marisa (as well as Reimu) met the following characters:
- Orange, Ordinary Mountain Youkai. Touhou 4 exclusive; some say she was a Hong Meiling prototype. Doesn't have any strong motivation, just gets in the way of the heroines.
- Kurumi, Vampire of the Bloody Lake. Touhou 4 exclusive. Tried to stop the heroines since she is a gatekeeper of the lake.
- Elly, Gatekeeper of Mugenkan. Touhou 4 exclusive. Tried to stop the heroines since she is the gatekeeper. Her scythe is annoying!
- Reimu or Marisa, depends on who is the playable character. Reimu doesn't want Marisa to be in the way of her job, and Marisa doesn't want Reimu to be in her way in getting more power (in one of Reimu's good endings Marisa out of spite opened the bottle that Reimu sealed the mansion in).
- Kazami Yuuka, Beauty of Everlasting Darkness. Touhou 4 exclusive as the main villian and Touhou 5 exclusive as one of the possible protagonists. An old and quite cruel youkai with a specific (and dark as well) sense of humour. She is the master of the mansion that caused the ruckus. Marisa wants to get her Master Spark magic device, Reimu wants to seal her and her mansion for good.
In general, Marisa is a neutral chaotic character. She doesn't care about anyone's privacy, if she wants to get something, she'll sneak in and steal it. She is obsessed with magic, especially with lasers, that's why she wanted to get that device Yuuka used - 23:30 - to her own possession. Since Marisa uses it as her bomb in the further Touhou parts, she was succeeded, in other words, Marisa is the canonical protagonist of this game. She also said that evil spirit extermination is fun, so probably this is where she became an evil spirit exterminator freelancer.
One more thing about Marisa: unlike Reimu, who despises any trainings and teachings, Marisa likes to learn something new.
