I took up this challenge as a random project for fun, and holy hot damn in Hawaii did this take some effort. I did a large number of resets despite tackling this in a single day, and I can safely say most of those come from Patchouli and especially QED "Ripples of 495 Years."
Henceforth and thusly, I am proud to present Touhou 6's Extra Stage...without bombing, losing any lives, and capturing all Spells. Comments about the run are listed below!
The stage is pretty rough. Lots of areas where it's easy to get sniped, especially that damn fairy just before Patchy. I intentionally held off on getting max power so I could clear some bullets in the section early on, which saved me some trouble. The only scary part after the fight with Patchouli are the books near the end, which clutter the screen extremely quickly.
Patchouli herself is something to be feared. Silent Selene is easy to underestimate, with a surprisingly dense barrage of awkwardly aimed bullets. She also moves a lot during the attack, which makes it difficult to deal with. Royal Flare can be tough, though it becomes much easier once routed. Finally, Philosopher's Stone is so convoluted it's a wonder anybody figured it out to begin with. Blue is aimed, red is random, green drifts left, yellow changes direction once, and silver is aimed together. Overall, she'll be responsible for a good number of your resets.
Flandre herself isn't actually the worst, though she is insanely easy to underestimate as well. I ended up losing runs to almost every Spell Card she has, as her attacks are awkward both in structure and dodging requirements.
Cranberry Trap is strange. The purple bullets are static while the blue ones are aimed. I mostly improv this one, trying to get extreme DPS and starting in the center. If I get decent RNG with her movement, it's not that bad. Otherwise, it can get nasty.
Laevateinn is pretty damn easy. Get a good feel for the speed of her blade and you'll basically never die to this.
Four of a Kind can be a real menace...If you get good RNG, you can kill her off quickly or at least take down some of her clones. Otherwise, this one can go on for an uncomfortably long time.
Kagome Kagome isn't the worst, but depending on the RNG this can be a real dealbreaker. There are times where the dodging is insanely tight and dense, while other times I almost want to call it free. Get your damage in and you should come out relatively unscathed.
Maze of Love requires some pretty tight movement, but once you got the strategy down it's manageable enough. Still though, it's surprisingly easy to fuck up, so exercise caution.
Starbow Break is dense to the maximum. There is a safespot you can abuse at the top left, but I didn't feel like doing that since this is a Full Spell run. Visual range is key here, trust your hitbox and you should be fine.
Catadioptric has an obvious quiet spot near the bottom-right, and it helps wonders. The attack is rather challenging with all the visual clutter, and you may have to make some uncomfortable dodges, but otherwise it's again manageable enough.
Clock that Ticks Away the Past is fairly easy, though the second wave is quite fast so watch your back.
And Then There Will Be None? What a name for a Spell Card. This is Flandre's timeout, and truth be told it's not as bad as it looks. Don't get me wrong, for players with below average visual awareness this one can eat you alive, but it's also quite static and extremely predictable. Stay in the bottom-center, don't get cocky, and this one's fair enough.
QED "Ripples of 495 Years"
...Holy snowballin' circlejerk, this Spell Card is an agile clusterfuck of confusing mayhem. It's honestly one of the most difficult Extra finals in the whole series, especially during the heat of the moment. Flandre will shoot a spiral of bullets which will ricochet off of the walls, getting progressively faster as her health gets lower.
There's no safespots for this, you just have to have insane reaction time, visual range, and a damn high skill floor to capture it. The only ounce of mercy it gives you is in the form of a glitch, in which before QED activates, Flandre will take rather massive damage from your shot and bombs. Otherwise, keep your eye on the openings, zip to the bottom of the screen as soon as you see Flandre flash so you can survive for the slightest bit longer, and you should be good...don't act surprised though if you die right as Flandre goes down, it seems to be a rather common occurrence actually.
This is one of my crowning achievements overall thus far! Didn't mean to one-up my No Bomb run of this Extra Stage so soon, but I couldn't resist. Flandre is awesome! Buy EoSD on CD-ROM too, it's absolutely fantastic.
