Touhou Labyrinth 2 Any% in 9:55:00 (Segmented) (Stratum 2)
2THIS SPEEDRUN IS SEGMENTED!!
Meaning segments were recorded separately and will be presented together as a finished run. This is not meant to be compared to a single segment run and exists only as a proof of concept for the route.
I chose to do this first run segmented because of how lengthy it is, and segmenting it allows me to play a bit of it every day and take notes on what can be improved on future runs. Not to mention I have work and need to sleep too.
Timer starts when selecting New Game and ends on the fade to black after the results screen in the 20F regular final boss. For the purposes of this segmented run, time was paused after the "Game was saved" message appears on screen, and is resumed when selecting the save file on the title screen.
I go out of my way to collect treasures since it will allow me to get the "Open 256 chests" achievement by the endgame, which gives you 50k money that is VERY necessary to beat the game underlevelled. I also grind a bit on each floor to make sure I level up naturally and use the exp bonuses that come from just battling while exploring the map.
This video covers the second stratum, it's the first real challenge of the run offering some neat strats for a couple bosses. The floors feature enemies that are very weak to NTR and FIR, so we use characters that cover those elements to deal with trash. Komachi is used as a tank and also as a DTH source.
We go out of our way to do the Wriggle side quest, since she is indispensable for the Hina boss fight. Hina is very strong and our damage options are somewhat limited, so the most consistent strat for beating her is PSN while Parsee tanks every hit. Not only that, doing the Wriggle quest also unlocks Mokou for us, which will unlock Reisen in the future. Reisen is also an indispensable party member.
The Kraken fight is the first real hard boss fight in the run, and for good reason - it's fast and hits super hard. We use the Kasen/Parsee TRR combo to deal big damage to it, and Nitori can nuke it with Super Scope as well for big damage. Momiji and Kasen try to tank hits as best as possible, but this is pretty much a damage rush.
The Blue Orchid fight is made trivial since we have access to the Toxicologist subclass that can inflict HVY, which halves the thing's DEF and allows Kasen/Parsee to deal big damage with their TRR combo, killing it before it can even act 3 times. The Tenshi fight is a mandatory loss so it's also trivial.
