Touhou Labyrinth 2 Any% in 9:55:00 (Segmented) (Stratum 6)
3THIS SPEEDRUN IS SEGMENTED!!
Meaning segments were recorded separately and will be presented together as a finished run. This is not meant to be compared to a single segment run and exists only as a proof of concept for the route.
I chose to do this first run segmented because of how lengthy it is, and segmenting it allows me to play a bit of it every day and take notes on what can be improved on future runs. Not to mention I have work and need to sleep too.
Timer starts when selecting New Game and ends on the fade to black after the results screen in the 20F regular final boss. For the purposes of this segmented run, time was paused after the "Game was saved" message appears on screen, and is resumed when selecting the save file on the title screen.
I go out of my way to collect treasures since it will allow me to get the "Open 256 chests" achievement by the endgame, which gives you 50k money that is VERY necessary to beat the game underlevelled. I also grind a bit on each floor to make sure I level up naturally and use the exp bonuses that come from just battling while exploring the map. By this point however I already have enough EXP to finish the run, so I run from every trash encounter.
This video covers the sixth stratum, by far the easiest one in the entire run. We already have enough power to beat the final boss, so there's no need to grind trash and we just run away with Aya and collect treasures.
The highlights of this stratum are the 2 bosses, Goddess of Fertility and the Golden Orb trio. Both of them are neutralized by Diva Aya, by far the most broken strat in the entire game, since she shuts down bosses by spamming Dance of Cochlea, and since the entire team is faster than the boss, you can kill it without it ever getting a turn. Cirno plays a major role here with Blizzard Blowout, halving enemy SPD on her death, allowing Aya to come in and keep them locked with half SPD.
This is way easier said than done though, since we are severely underlevelled for this area. Very careful MP and ATB management are necessary to keep bosses in check and to deal enough damage to them so that the fight doesn't drag on for 30+ minutes. Nitori plays a major role in damaging everything with Super Scope to speed up fights.
