15In TUO pre3 fix3, a new difficulty "Ascended" was added, accessible by pressing shift on the difficulty selection screen.
It's a pretty nutty difficulty as you gain resources much slower, and deaths consume 2x lives (4x in a boss fight, meaning you can lose 8 lives from getting hit once during a boss fight if the boss has a red aura up).
This is why I suicided at the end of stage 2 before the boss, in order to refill my bombs without the 4x penalty.
In pre3 fix4, it was slightly nerfed by increasing the speed of resource gain, particularly how fast you get Tactical Skills (C key). This is a clear of that version.
The devs have mentioned this game mode is just something they added for fun and likely won't be in the full game.
