Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue! | Dreamcast | 4K | Longplay Full Game Walkthrough
Full game longplay of Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue!, an action-adventure game based on the movie Toy Story 2, though the game's levels have little to nothing in common with the movie itself, commonalities are clearly just story-wise. This here is the Sega Dreamcast version, released in year 2000, half a year after the November 1999 PSX/PC release. Played on a Redream emulator, in 3840x2880, above 4K, in 4:3 since no widescreen hack exists. There might be slowdown due to the video capture of this emulator.
NOTE: there were supposed to be in-game movie cutscenes, directly from Toy Story 2, but they are copyrighted directly by Disney, so the video with them in it was restricted COMPLETELY IN THE WHOLE WORLD, like I couldn't even publish it. So, I had to cut them out almost completely too.
My opinion on this specific port and game itself:
Piss poor Dreamcast port, nothing more than just 1:1 port from PSX, which ALWAYS ended in the same way: horribly looking, bad performing, and buggy game. And yep, here it is, textures straight from PSX, some texture clipping and just full-on clipping at the edges of the screen, and that's in 4:3 you understand. Performance was mediocre all the time, 20-30 fps, but some additional slowdowns on the recording that I did not have while playing myself.
I'm gonna say more, this game is mediocre at best. Nothing ambitious, good looking, or with a nice gameplay. Nope. Just your standard action-adventure combined with a platformer. Well, I hate platformers, but Toy Story 2 clearly is not a good game, even with the nostalgia glasses I usually have on, it's just not. I'd rate it something like 5.5-6/10.
The game's plot is relative to the Toy Story 2 film, and begins at Andy's house as Al McWhiggin steals Woody from the family's yard sale. Buzz Lightyear, Hamm, Rex, Slinky, and Mr. Potato Head venture out to find and rescue Woody. After leaving Andy's house, the toys enter the neighborhood in which Andy lives, then proceed to Al's Toy Barn, the penthouse where Al lives and finally the airport terminal and tarmac where the movie ends. Stinky Pete (a.k.a. the Prospector) appears as the game's final boss along with two of his in-game henchmen.
