TRAIL OUT (2022) - Every PC F1 Game
8TRAIL OUT by Good Boys/Crytivo, 2022.
A German/Ukrainian spiritual sequel to Flatout, this game features a pretty undesirable ex-stuntman trying to get to the top of the series, by completing races, demolition derbies and stunts (lifted almost entirely wholesale from the Flatout series!).
Apart from the awful voice acting, this game is surprisingly good. It also features an F1-like car based around a 1970s McLaren, hence me including it here!
Graphics are pretty decent; the ray tracing doesn't really know if it wants to stay on all the time (especially inside the car cockpit!) and sound is pretty quiet (I left it on default settings). There are some catchy rock tunes but I always try to turn off music to focus on the engine noise (and turn of HUD for F1 games too, where possible).
It is possible to spin the camera around the car, but that makes it nearly impossible to drive, hence no drive-by shots here, as it only takes a few wrecks in the F1-style car to destroy it, as you can see!
1. Race Start (Monza): 0:00 No Monza here, but there is the Nurburgring GP track, here called Nordloopring! Yes, F1 cars have horns and handbrakes... and twitchy handling (as steering wheel isn't supported!). Notice the ray tracing flickering on-and-off.
2. Spray Effects (Silverstone): 0:30 There is some heavy rain in one of the demolition derby arenas, but here is the Autodromo track, high speed banking!
3. Tunnel & View (Monaco): 0:49 There's no Monaco but here's San Francisco instead! Notice how easy it is to lose your rear wing!
4. Wet Track (Spa-Francorchamps): 1:15 There's no Spa, but here's a nice scenic track. I drive through some split oil at the start so it's briefly wet! Again, note the ray tracing going on-and-off and the front wheels being affected by motion blur too much!
5. Pitstop (Interlagos): 1:37 Back to the Nurburgring. The track is lined with heavy objects and hazards, plus pitstops are NOT allowed... as the pits are full of people!
6. Huge Crash (Montreal): 2:14 No Montreal, so here's a small circuit instead, and a few crashes. See how I'm thrown from the car, Flatout style, before destroying a rival or two, and finally crashing out entirely, on fire!
