F1 23 by Codemasters/Electronic Arts, 2023.

The second Formula 1 game under EA's ownership of Codemasters brought back the "Breaking Point" story, yet at the same time F1 2021 was removed from sale, so people couldn't play through the first part!

The F1 Life section returns, along with supercars and a collection of other smaller modes, plus a few non-2023 tracks round out the game.

This game brings ray tracing fully into the gameplay, so there are reflections EVERYWHERE. Some look a bit over-the-top (the yellow barriers are reflecting a bit too strongly on cars in the first clip). I also had to reduce ray tracing from the maximum and use DLSS (having an Nvidia 2070 SUPER), happily Codemasters have reduced the irritating ghosting effects seen in previous games

The lighting generally looks warmer thoughout here. Whether or not it's a huge jump on from F1 22 you'd have to watch my video of that to compare!

1. Race Start (Monza): 0:00 Ray tracing everywhere! The in-car noise has been muffled again, using the "Driver" profile, in F1 22 it was too loud! Lighting here is very warm, almost too much so (especially on reflections on the cars).

2. Spray Effects (Silverstone): 0:38 I said Codemasters had to improve the wet weather spray and they have! It's really dense now, though I'm not 100% sold on the spray blocks coming from the top of the tyres, as well as the bottom...

3. Tunnel & View (Monaco): 0:54 Lighting again is warmer and feels more orange than F1 22. Sparks look much more noticeable and the flare as you leave the tunnel is overwhelming!

4. Wet Track (Spa-Francorchamps): 1:12 It looks much more hazy and wet in F1 23, but the colours are more vibrant. For the second year, Codemasters haven't bothered to update the trackside scenery (big new grandstand at the top of Radillon for example). I do wonder whether the majority of rain drops will ever animate down the body work, as only a handful do, like previous Codemasters titles!

5. Pitstop (Interlagos): 1:35 This demonstrates the "Immersive" pitstop, where you have to steer at the right time, or it costs more time. There's a "Broadcast" pitstop mode too, where the entire pitstop is non-interactive and shot like the real-life TV view. Again, lighting is brighter, warmer, with more bloom, than F1 22.

6. Huge Crash (Montreal): 1:56 After many attempts I managed to get my car pointing in the sky following a crash. Most just damage front wings, wheels and that's about it. It all feels a bit like bumper cars, and once again, cuts out too early!
