Trailblazer: An Indie RPG Early Look!
12It's Friday and this is definitely becoming a thing because there are SO many good indie RPGs in development out there! This week, we're playing through the demo of Trailblazer, an RPGMaker game from Sanctuary Games and Will Black set in the American Wild West with guns, magic, zombies, evil former Confederates, and a lot of the known inhabitants of Deadwood.
The story of Trailblazer follows Jean Smith, a drifter with a complicated past who stops off to help some people out but somehow zombies. Just... All the zombies. When "we need lots of dynamite" is the call, you know the number of zombies has gotten out of hand. Lucky for Jean, he meets up with some old friends and new allies to fight back against the hoard, culminating in big fight against a particularly dangerous undead.
And seriously, even though I said it in the video, this game has so many cool things I haven't seen before in a turn-based RPG. The skill trees, the setting, the mix of guns and magic, it's all so new and interesting while still having the familiarity of the RPGs I've loved for the last 30 years. It's even fun to replay the demo to try out different starting setups and explore different choices, which I normally don't say about RPGs.
And finally, yes, I missed the "Arken saw" part of the jokey poem when I was playing it, but I caught it while editing. I miss so much when playing that I catch when editing XD
