Trains at: Cheddington, WCML, 26/01/19
A very enjoyable but cold afternoon spent at Cheddinton on the West Coast Mainline where we see plenty of services from London Northwestern Railway, Virgin Trains, Southern and freight from Freightliner and DRS.
The station was opened in 1838 by the London and Birmingham Railway and was formally a junction station for a branch line that went to Aylesbury High Street which was used by a mixture of freight and passenger traffic. The freight traffic would typically consist of cattle wagons taking the animals to Leighton Buzzard where they would be sold at the farmers market in the cnetre of the town. The line remain opened until 1964 until it was finally closed.
The only real significant thing that happened at Cheddington was the Great Train Robbery of 1963 which occured 1.2 miles down the line at Ledburn Junction.
On average the station sees roughly 75,000 passengers per year.
Joining me today was Trainspoteast and camjkerman so please do check out their channels.
My next station is Leighton Buzzard.
