A very enjoyable hour spent at the slightly amazing station of Micheldever on the South Western Mainline where we see plenty of services from South Western Railway and Cross Country.

Having not been here before I really didn't know what to expect but the moment I got off the train I instantly fell in love with the station. It's amazingly basic but it just has a certain charm to it that the previous stations were missing.

The station was opened in 1840 and was originally known as Andover Road. This was until Andover received its own station, when Andover Road station was built it attracted a few houses and some small shops to the area which would eventually lead to the small village of Micheldever being created, so in many respects the village is a railway village as it was established and slowly grew because of what the railway was able to offer at the time.

However there are now no more local shops available in the village. All that remains is the houses and a tyre fitting store located outside the former station building.

You may notice that there is an old station building located on the right hand side of the line, this was the original station building when the line he two separate platforms, this was before the line was electrified in 1967 which then resulted in the two side platforms being closed and a brand new island platform was built and to this day still looks in relatively good condition.

The yard that I mentioned at the top of the video was a former fuel and oil depot which served the RAF (Royal Air Force). The goods yard is still used to this day for rolling stock storage but the oil yard was closed in 1995. It was opened in 1939.

I loved this station and would happily come back here.

My next station is Basingstoke.
