A fantastic and somewhat wet morning spent at Peterborough station on the East Coast Mainline where we see plenty of services from Virgin Trains East Coast, Cross Country, Govia Great Northern, East Midlands Trains and Greater Anglia along with freight from Freightliner and GBRF.

Peterborough station was constructed in 1845 as part of several companies all reaching Peterborough at roughly the same time, these included the Eastern Counties Railway which built the Ely to Peterborough Line, the Northampton and Peterborough Railway which was constructed by the London and Birmingham Railway. Both of these companies were then later joined by the Midland Railway which built the Syston and Peterborough Railway only a year later.

The East Counties Railway was to later become part of the Great Eastern Railway which in turn built the loop line from Peterborough to Spalding which was finished on October 17 1848.

The current station was not the original however, with several lines closing in the later half of the 1900's. When the Great Northern Railway arrived at Peterborough it was decided that they would need their own station. Which was then built in 1850, Peterborough East station finally closed when the Northampton and Peterborough was closed.

After many years of continuous service the Great Eastern and Northern Railways both became part of the London and North Eastern Railway which saw unparraled success. And the rest as they say is history.

Joining me today was Jacob Tuson so please do check out his channel.
