Trashed Sega CD Model 1 Back from the dead. Reaction to turning it on for the first time!
I bought this Sega CD not long ago and the listing stated that it powered on but the drive wouldn't open. This is a common issue (belt) so I figured I'd pick it up since the price was reasonable. Holy frick did this turn into an undertaking. The guy assumed the Sega CD was trash and just didn't pack it well as 3 sides didn't even have padding and the cardboard was super thin. This caused the CD drive inside to sheer off of the standoffs, the drive damaged the ribbon cable going to the main motherboard, apparently the fuse busted during all of that (since he said it powered on and it no longer did) and the round bezel on the front had a break.
I fixed all of that and tested it and it worked. So I decided to completely recap/refurb this and repair any damage. And boy was there damage (mostly with the SMD caps). I replaced every cap, the fuse, CD belt, the VR and installed a new battery holder and battery. This video shows how that all turned out. I still need to fix the front.
