Trials of Vegan: Part 11 (No commentary)
This is a vegan style playthrough of Trials of Mana.
That means that I don't eat or use any animal products. No honey, meat or leather. I also avoid slaying animal monsters as much as possible. For example, You'll see me run from fights with rabites and bats, however, you will see me take out a goblin in a group of rabites and then escape the battle. You will also see me battle monsters such as the mushroom monster. I forego any equipment with fur, leather, fangs, etc as well.
The difference is that they are not animals. Goblins are a more intelligent racial species that you can even build as in some games while mushrooms are plants. This is how I made distinct which enemies I can fight and which I can not.
Why do these difference matter? A more intelligent species can choose whether it is hostile toward me based on intelligence and reasoning while an animal will simply attack me for making them feel anxious/nervous/threatened, etc. Animals, while sentient and capable of experiencing and understand sensation and emotion, are not quite intelligent enough to know any better. The more intelligent races should know better and simply don't care.
However, if an animal has me cornered and I can't escape, I will not show mercy.
Also, the A.I. team members can't be told not to attack animals so while I try to not allow them to kill animals, they still do sometimes and there's nothing I can do about that but I myself will not kill them when I can escape.
Also, I haven't found a way to discard items yet so you'll see things like honey in my inventory though I never use them.
