This is what happens when you let a guitarist arrange things, they just put a bunch of guitars everywhere!
For this month's Pixel Mixers contest the theme was MMOs. Serrin and I are not the biggest fan of the genre, so this one was tough to get into and find something we were excited to cover. We stumbled on to a handful of interesting songs from some older games, but it ended up being the Ultima Online soundtrack that we thought was the coolest.
I never had a chance to play Ultima Online when it was new, and from what I've heard from people who did, it was quite the experience. The Trinsic city theme is very cool, has this great stereo interplay. I thought it would be fun to use those pieces to build an intro and introduce each of the pieces one by one. Originally it was going to be all guitars, but it sounded wrong. The original had some harp which I really liked, so I put that back in and gave it some extra parts and I was really liking how it was coming along. At first I didn't even consider asking for a real harpist to play it, but I am so glad I did.
I put out the call and got Harpsibored on board and holy fucking hell that was the best decision. Not only did she deliver some amazing harp recordings, but she took the garbage I wrote and spun it into gold, adding her own ideas which made this track so much radder than what I expected. It's really fun to have harp playing over some good old chuggy guitar riffs. Needs more metal harp.
