Tsugunai: Atonement (2001) PCSX2 1.6.0 walkthrough Chapter 5 - The Long Eared Cat
Tsugunai: Atonement, known in Japan as simply Tsugunai (つぐない), is a role-playing video game developed by Cattle Call for the PlayStation 2 game console. The game was published by Sony Computer Entertainment in Japan in February 2001 and was published by Atlus USA in North America in November 2001.
The main character, Reise, is a Raven, a sort of mercenary who takes dangerous jobs to earn a living. The game opens as Reise climbs an ancient tower to retrieve the Treasure Orb, a sacred artifact. In doing so, he angers the gods, who retaliate by separating Reise's body and soul. In order to atone for his sins, Reise must demonstrate kindness and courage by assisting the denizens of a small fishing village. He accomplishes this by possessing the bodies of those he needs to help, in order to allow them to accomplish tasks that they will not or cannot accomplish by themselves. In time, he ends up saving the village from a great evil.
The game is broken up into around 35 different "quests". Some of them involve the principal characters, while some are more peripheral and let the player explore the lives of some of the other characters in the village. All combat-oriented quests involve the principal characters. Once Reise meets the quest's objective, the quest is solved and the story advances, often changing the situation in the village and opening up new quests.
Even though the game involves many different characters, the mechanics treat the characters as equal, except in the case of the weapons they can equip. Magic, supplementary equipment, and items are carried over from quest to quest, regardless of whom Reise possesses.
Remember the boy who said that he's not lying after telling them that he saw a fairy in the empty house? Bild here was trying to prove that he's not lying to anyone for once when the children said that he lied to them about the fairy before by proving that a cat with long ears exists but sadly, Bild doesn't know where to start and the children start to bully him by calling him a liar and he ran to the beach, crying. Poor kid...if what he said is true, then there should be a place where the cat lived. Because Reese eavesdropped as a spirit, he possesses Bild to help him find the cat and the quest begins.
There's no fight in here and to start the quest, we need fish to lure the cat if we want to try finding it. Luckily, at the harbor...the fishermen caught five small fishes among the larger ones that were deemed too small for them to be valuable and we can use these fishes in the basket for the cat. If you remember that red gate with a hole at the bottom right, Bild is small enough to enter the Haunted Lighthouse area blocked by the red gate that leads to the gigantic trees with branches crossing at each other. This area is the place where the long-eared cat lived and apparently, one Raven was trying to get inside the lighthouse from here for as long as we know. So many cats of various breeds roam here...they're all strays but friendly when we talked to them. Among the trees, there is one with roots forming into a large cave gap that we can enter. Inside, we will see the long-eared cat hiding in one of these four holes among the roots crossing at each other but if we approached it, it will run back into the hole. Put one of the fish we had in front of each of the holes and after the last fifth fish, the long-eared cat will approach Bild on its own.
With the cat following us, the children finally believed that Bild is telling the truth and his relief causes Reise's spirit to get out, completing the quest. Back at the empty house, Navi tells Reise to keep up the good work and it's time to find the next person who needs our help (As spirit controlling them of course)
