Framing the rolling profile of the railway vehicle wheels in to the geometric dimensions, regulated by national and international rules, is a key factor for traffic safety. The wheels are the most loaded components of railway vehicles and are subject to continuous wear. When the wheel reaches a certain critical level of wear, it must be readjusted or replaced. Using wheels with appropriate profile reduce the risk of derailment and minimizes the dynamic interaction between the vehicle and the track, reducing noise, vibration and wear.

The WheelReshaping project aims to achieve the functional model of a flexible equipment, for measurement and computer analysis of train wheel profile, with the ability to easily adapt to applying a technological process of profilling/reprofilling on CNC machine-tools. Relevance of the project, result from the objective requirement to modernize and efficiensy the process of reconditioning the rolling stock, in order to increase traffic safety and reduce maintenance costs.
