I've had a few headphone questions regarding playback and the microphone not working. Until recently, I hadn't had any of these problems. After a driver update however, I did encounter no audio when using the Realtek Audio device. Hopefully this will help people troubleshoot audio problems.

Similar techniques may work for microphone issues. I also want to correct one word in my video. When adjusting microphone devices, you're looking for Default Communication Device, not Recording Device.
