You need custom rom with kernel support USB-Hub of SGS i9000. It is mostly all modern kernels from ICS to KK, expect stock CM kernel. There are DevilKernel, Semaphore kernel, CyanCore kernel, Mackay kernel and others.

Hardware:
- Samsung Galaxy S GT i9000
- USB Y-cable
- USB OTG cable
- 5V power supply with USB connector
- external 2.5" hard disc drive NTFS formatted

Software:
- Paragon NTFS mounter
- USB Host Controller

By default HDD mounted to sdcard0/ParagonNTFS folder

You can directly read write and copy from (to) hard disk drive.

Also phone is charging during all operation. If you are do not want this, then check Disable charger in Settings of USB Host Controller app.
