Tutorial: How To PS3 Hard Drive Free up Space Save Data Management
420The Data Files can be deleted to free up lots of space on the PlayStation 3 hard drive. Data files are used to run the games and are what is installed when first putting in the game or buying dlc. This stuff is in the Data file folder at the top of the PS3 game icon XMB bar. These files are mostly in GB size save files. Often shown as being MB in size. It is better to delete these Data files than the smaller Save game progress files located in the Save game folder. You can copy many game progress save game files to a usb thumb zip drive. And again they are pretty small so to free up space just delete the Data files unless you never plan on playing the game again or have saved the game save file to a usb drive.
The Save files are in another file lower than the Data file but above the game disc icon obviously. These are your game progress files and are generally small coming in KB sizes. 1024MB is 1 GB and save files are only 1000KB which is only 1MB. Nothing much really dealing with KB's save files. I made this cause I once a long time ago deleted some save files to free up space not knowing the game progress of hours and hours only amounted to some KB's :/
So if you need space to install game data just remove some Data files. CAUTION! If you have DLC you will obviously need to redownload from the store if you delete them, so try to choose non-dlc game files to free up the space you need. As in the video, look under "Settings"-System Settings"- and then "System Information" at the bottom to see how many GB you are using and have free.
