2The ladder checkmate is the most basic checkmate we learn (besides the backrank checkmate). However, two queens are capable of some other very cool checkmates beyond the ladder (sometimes called the roller). Let's watch and see two more checkmates. I call them the orthogonal and diagonal. But of them involve one queen standing adjacent to the king.
