Tyrant (T-002) - Explained (Resident Evil 1)

The T-002 Tyrant was part of The Umbrella Corporations Bio-Organic-Weapons research at Umbrella USAs Top Secret Arklay Laboratory.
Created by T-Virus Primary infection and surgical enhancement of a Human test subject.
Dubbed ‘The Ultimate Life Form” The T-002 is a hulking BOW, standing over 8 feet tall and weighing in at 250 kg. It has a pale White coloured skin tone, and one large clawed hand.
To cope with it’s increased size, Umbrella scientists grafted an additional heart from a large animal onto the right-hand side of it’s chest, to allow it to pump enough blood around it’s system.
Due to the rarity of an individual being compatible enough with the T-Virus to become a suitable candidate for a Tyrant rather than succumbing to necrosis and becoming a Zombie. Tyrants are exceedingly rare; with most examples being cloned from a single specimen.
The T-002 was the first Tyrant created by Umbrella to be considered a success. As previous versions, such as the T-001, AKA, the Proto-Tyrant, was plagued with issues and imperfections including a defective nervous system, insufficient intelligence and an exposed spinal-column.
With the T-002 however, these issues had been mostly ironed-out. With this model retaining almost all of it’s former intelligence; being able to follow instructions and carry out simple missions.

The Tyrant project began in 1988 with the intent on creating an advanced BOW for military use, and to bridge the gap between being physically powerful, and retaining its intelligence.
Due to the virus only having the required effect on just one in ten million people, the Tyrant project had to be delayed until a new strain could be engineered which would expand the number of compatible individuals.
The new variant would be named, The Epsilon Strain. When this new strain was finalised, Production on the prototype Tyrants finally began in early 1998.
Upon completion, the T-002 was set to be pitted up against trained and experienced Human combatants to gather combat data on the Types effectiveness in a real-world setting.
The Human targets in this case were the Racoon City Police Departments Special Tactics And Rescue Service, abbreviated as S.T.A.R.S ; and consisting of the Cities best and brightest Police Officers grouped together into an Elite Special Unit.
Manipulated into entering the Spencer Mansion by their Captain; Albert Wesker, who was secretly working for Umbrella.
After being released from it’s containment chamber, it attacked Wesker, apparently killing him, and then set it’s sight on the last surviving S.T.A.R.S members; Jill Valentine, Barry Burton, Chris Redfield and Rebecca Chambers. First in the lab, then pursuing them to the Helipad.

Luckily, they managed to defeat it by shooting it with a Rocket Launcher, obliterating the Tyrant, and it’s remains going up with the rest of the facility when the self-destruct sequence was triggered.
