Following Ubisoft's announcement of a new partnership with Tencent, some Ubisoft employees are worried about potential layoffs. The deal involves creating a new company that will focus on Ubisoft's biggest game franchises: Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six, along with some of its studios.
Employees who aren't working on these main franchises are feeling uncertain about their future at the company. Ubisoft's Marie-Sophie de Waubert sent an email to employees trying to ease their worries, saying that everyone's work is important and that the deal will benefit the entire company.
However, some employees aren't convinced. They feel like the focus will be mainly on the "big three" franchises. They also said they haven't received clear information about what the deal means for them, even though the announcement was public.
Other employees shared similar concerns, saying they just want to know what's going on and if they will still have their jobs. They're hoping for the transparency and communication that Ubisoft promised.
Insider Gaming has contacted Ubisoft for a comment on how this deal will affect employees and if there will be layoffs. Ubisoft expects the deal to be finalized by the end of 2025.
