Canonical are transitioning some packages from being Deb based to Snap based. The change has started with Chromium in Ubuntu 19.10 and will be backported to earlier supported releases of Ubuntu.
More packages will be transitioned to being only Snap based over time.
There is no debate, it’s a firm plan that will eventually resources in building and testing.
