We are delighted to announce that we are participating in another ‘Ubuntu Testing Week’ for the 21.04 release cycle, from April 1st to April 7th with other Ubuntu flavo(u)rs and remixes. Also, the beta ISO has been uploaded to the server provided to us by DarkPenguin. The testing session will happen for 7 days starting today, April 1st, but you are welcome to continue testing even after the conclusion of the Ubuntu Testing Week on April 7th. Please use the #UbuntuTestingWeek hashtag on social media to spread the word about the event and to encourage others to participate as well.
You can download the beta ISO for testing from the DarkPenguin server. You can create a testing VM in Boxes (free/libre), VirtualBox (free/libre) or VMware Player (proprietary). You might need additional hardware, since a few packages cannot be tested in a virtual machine.
Testers can visit our ISO QA Tracker for more information, complete all the test cases in the tracker, report bugs and provide feedback. Do test our completely new and revamped Yaru theme for Unity, amongst other features. If you find a bug, run: ubuntu-bug PKGNAME.
We also encourage you to test the other Ubuntu flavo(u)rs and remixes, as we are all one big family. Please join the tester community live in the Ubuntu IRC channel (#ubuntu-quality on freenode) or Telegram group (Ubuntu Testers).

Unity is a graphical shell for the GNOME desktop environment originally developed by Canonical Ltd. for its Ubuntu operating system, and now being developed by the Unity Maintainers (Unity) and UBports (Unity/Lomiri). Unity debuted in the netbook edition of Ubuntu 10.10. It was initially designed to make more efficient use of space given the limited screen size of netbooks, including, for example, a vertical application switcher called the launcher, and a space-saving horizontal multipurpose top menu bar.
Unity was part of the Ayatana project, an initiative with the stated intention of improving the user experience within Ubuntu.
Unlike GNOME, KDE Software Compilation, Xfce, or LXDE, Unity is not a collection of applications. It is designed to use existing programs.
On 5 April 2017, Mark Shuttleworth announced that Canonical's work on Unity would end. Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, a year away from release at the time, would abandon the Unity desktop and employ the GNOME 3 desktop instead. Unity Maintainers took over Unity development, while UBports founder Marius Gripsgård announced that the organization would continue Unity development. On 27 February 2020, UBports announced that it renamed Unity Lomiri.
In May 2020, a new unofficial Ubuntu version was first released. Ubuntu Unity uses the Unity desktop.
Ubuntu Unity and Unity Maintainers have started working on the successor of Unity, UnityX.
