The "shifting sand" is very similar if you've played F-Zero GP Legends and it does make you faster. I also learned during this course that of the 2 boosts you get, only the first has a large window of optimal usage due to Barl's insane momentum. As long as you get back to your unboosted max speed and not hit objects, the first boost can be varied a bit.

The final boost, however, seems like it will always require immediate activation on the final lap since there is not enough time to dissipate the speed, which makes the final laps very hard and very fast.
