Ultima I - Play and finish as Virtuous as possible (1/20)
This is Ultima I, before Lord British implemented the virtues. So the game does allow you to steal and murder, and your only penalty is getting caught and killed by the guards.
In this case I've tried to do the least amount of both as necessary, completing the game without stealing and only killing Gwino the Jester once. No guards killed. :D It is NOT possible to complete the game without killing the jester at least once since the princess gives you the time machine.
If you are playing this game by yourself, I highly recommend at least a map since the game world is easy to go around in circles with.
I own three copies of this game, one on the original 5.25" floppy disk from the First age of Darkness trilogy, one from the Ultima Collection CD-ROM, and one from GOG.COM
This is not a speed run, though it currently totals 2 hours and 34 minutes, from one sitting and at least 3 death-and-reloads.
Most people who play it, just steal the weapons/armor/food they need at beginning, then die several times or reload.
The monsters that appear in the dungeons are basically D & D/Tolkien type monsters. Some of which don't appear again after Ultima 3. Basically, the "dungeon" is much harder than any other part of the game:
Floor 1 and 2: Thief's steal your weapons that aren't readied
Floor 3 and 4: Gelatinous cube destroys your armor
Floor 5 and 6: Nothing particularly expensive to deal with
Floor 7 and 8: Gremlins steal half your food
Floor 9 and 10: Nothing particularly expensive
Of which is why I try to spend as little time in the dungeon as possible below floor 2. The PC version apparently has a bug that makes all dungeon monsters deal full damage (as if you were wearing no armor.)
None of the overworld monsters steal your food or destroy your armor. Once you get a frigate or aircar, you can just shoot everything.
If you want to skip most of the general game play and cut to the interesting parts, skip to part 16/17 for the space battle. Part 18 for rescuing the princess, and part 20 for the end game.
This is the PC EGA version, unmodified.
