E3M5 (Episode 3 Mission 5: Unholy Cathedral) - 100% Walkthrough

Hey retrogamers!

Welcome back to watch another 100% Doom Episode! This time I am going to play the fifth mission of episode 3, which is called Unholy Cathedral. And oh boy this map is confusing! It’s one of my most hated missions from the episode 3. Even after all these years I haven’t figured out how to use these teleporters and therefore I was playing this mission with a written out guide.

So now you know why it looks like I don’t know how to play this game. When I was playing, one of my eyes was looking at the game and the other at the paper.

But let’s get down to business!

In this mission I will reveal you the secrets and also give you the instructions for these teleporters.

There are 6 secrets in this mission, if not counting teleporters.

1. In the starting area, take the door on the very left (the door well-lit by the torches). Open the wall on the left in the following room to get a pair of light amps.

2. There is a wide corridor lined with a series of red brick pillars. There is a wooden door on the west wall, continue through to reach a not-so-secret area with a soul sphere and plasma rifle.

3. Eventually at one point you will see a bright red room with damaging floors. On one of the walls here is a pair of blue symbols. Open the section of wall between them to get a radsuit.

4. Now find a corridor with a red gate. Search the outer walls, left of this red gate, where the wall bends, is a wall that opens, leading to a secret area overlooking the bright red room from earlier.

5. Make your way to the east end of the courtyard. There is some glowing red "writing" high on the wall. Open the wall below and slightly to the right of the symbols to get a chainsaw and another soul sphere. To exit the courtyard, take the teleporter in the northwest.

6. Find a red brick room with four crushers guarding switches (the blue skull key is in this room as well). Press the switch in the southeast crusher and three alcoves will open on each side of the room. The one containing a rocket launcher (the middle one on the east side) counts as a secret.

How to navigate teleporters?

The first one is easy. Take the teleporter in the aforementioned bright red room with damaging floor. You'll be taken to the center of the courtyard. Beware, one of the four structures surrounding the center teleport has opened, it contains a yellow skull key and an enemy.

The second one is quite easy as well. In the end of the corridor with blue door, you need to choose the door on the right and have your BFG ready as another door has opened and enemy is waiting inside.

Now from the courtyard you need to take the blinking teleporter two more times.

1. After teleportation, take door to the right and then immediately to the left and once again, have your BFG ready as another door has opened and enemy is waiting. Another way to find this portal is to go to the room with red gate, the head to the right of the gate and in the end choose right door.

2. Teleport again, take the right door but this time head to the right. In the end of the corridor take door to the right and then left. In the end of this corridor choose left and have your BFG ready. Remember, this is the room with red brick pillars, left from the wooden door, left door in the end.

If you can remember, unlike me, then in conclusion these portals are located in following rooms. One in the bright red room with damaging floor, one in the corridor with blue door, one in the corridor with red gate and one in the room with red brick pillars.

So there you go! This is how you find 100% secrets and navigate teleporters in mission 5.
