Picking up directly after the events of the first game, it's not quite vacation time for Peter Parker as Electro has stolen a device that gives him near god like powers. Not all hope is lost as the Uncanny X-Men are here to train Spider-Man for his toughest challenge yet. Along the way you'll have to put down some classic Spidey foes like Sandman and the Lizard and some not so familiar ones as well.

Did you Love the first Spider-man on Playstation 1 PS1? Well prepare to get a double dose of Spidey action because everything from that game is back and then some. The very talented Rino Romano reprises his role as Spider-Man and has plenty of hilarious one liners to keep you chuckling. Stan Lee is back as as well to provide narration and it's just always great to hear him. Spiderman gets a couple new powers and moves to keep things fresh. It's not all skyscrapers this time around as another new addition is the ability to hit the streets on some levels.

One area where this game outshines the original for sure is the new Danger Room Training missions. All of the levels have this cool Metal Gear Solid VR mission sort of vibe to them. Professor X and Rogue make cameos here and give you your mission objectives which was awesome. The missions aren't exactly easy either and provided an unexpected challenge.

After beating this game on normal, I just couldn't get enough! There are a lot more collectables and unlockables this time around to keep you plenty busy. I got this super awesome Venom 2 Earth X costume that did double damage and had unlimited web cartridges as a reward for beating the game on normal mode. You can even mix and match powers and costumes to make your own ultimate Spider-Man. I just had to try it out and had a blast going back through the game on hard mode.

Critics couldn't stand the controls and felt it made the game too difficult! So maybe the controls are a tad bit worse than the first game. I'll admit it. Not by much though. It takes a while to get used to them for sure but once you do it's not too big of an issue. Sure a couple boss fights here and there will have you pulling your hair out but with a little patience and some practice they will become trivial especially if you go for extra playthroughs. The first boss fight in the game is arguably the toughest as pulling off the web yank move while the Shocker is zapping the crap outta you ain't easy but I did it people! I completely suck at games for real! Here is a clip of how good it feels to finally beat him!

This game ain't the first, but there's still fun to be had here! So what if it doesn't have the cool 1960's Spider-man TV show theme song in it. So what if the story isn't personal this time around and kinda missing all the neat twists and turns of the original game. So what if it doesn't have all the super popular villains like Venom or super sweet cameos like Daredevil and the Punisher. So what if it wasn't made by the legendary Neversoft studio that made Tony Hawk Pro Skater! Vicarious Visions are pretty cool! They made some good games! Like how about this game and this game! Yeah never heard of those right? Probably underrated! The What If secret mode apparently wasn't as cool this time around either ! Oh yeah? Check out this clip of me skipping a whole level by riding a giant banana!

Let's talk about the big elephant in the room. So you can't really talk about this game without mentioning the 9/11 tragedy. The initial copies of this game had to be pulled from store shelves since the final level takes place on top of the world trade center. Not every copy ended up being recalled apparently so there are actually two different versions of the game out there in the wild. Both versions however are missing the original ending cutscene that includes a cameo from Thor. This ending was cut out of respect to the victims of the 9/11 tragedy, but was uploaded on the official Activision website. This ending is now considered lost media and only a thumbnail of the original video has been found.
