So you'll notice a few things already. Instead of the normal vertical shmup for a Touhou game, we have a horizontal shmup. It also has really nice 3D models and voice acting.

Now the biggest change is the Barrier system. Let me give you an overview.

When your barrier gauge is charged, you can activate the barrier which will absorb all bullets around your character. Repeatedly pressing D will allow you to move in your chosen direction helping you absorb more bullets. The more bullets you absorb, the stronger enemies you can instant kill by ramming them while you have your barrier up. The barrier attack also damages bosses. Your barrier will disappear after your gauge depletes or you clash your barrier with a boss which instantly depletes your gauge. If you deplete a boss's health bar to zero, your barrier gauge instantly recharges. The barrier is the only way to break through a boss's spellcard and is required to defeat bosses without time out.

Cirno in this game is a little annoying to deal with. Some of her attacks include an aimed spread of consecutive shots while strafing. Often times if you're moving and she fired, the spread pattern will fan out making it extremely difficult to dodge. She also has Icicle Machinegun which makes it surprisingly difficult to line up your shots unless you're using Homing like I was.

P.S.: I love the dialog. Cirno is so adorable thinking she's the last boss.
