Unlocking a decade-old antibiotics resistance problem with AlphaFold - Google DeepMind
Marcelo Sousa and Megan Mitchell at the University of Colorado Boulder are looking at a different approach against antibiotic resistance: targeting the resistance mechanism itself, controlled in this case with enzymes.
Using AlphaFold, (an AI system developed by Google DeepMind that predicts a protein’s 3D structure from its amino acid sequence) Marcelo and Megan explain how they solved the structure of one such enzyme - a challenge that a decade of experimentation couldn’t complete - in minutes.
