Here's a save state for Pokémon Gold for the start of the memory game if you don't want to glitch. The reason for the many 'inc l's is that without them I would have required an item quantity of 104, while the normal limit is 99. The code is to make the game call 38:6668.

To get these cloning may be required (sadly), and to get two stacks of Dire Hit x44 you must have one stack of 99 first, deposit them, buy more, then withdraw from the first stack of 99.

Steps:
1) Get the stored PC items listed above.
2) Get a Quagsire holding a HP UP with Sleep Talk as the first move. Make it Pokémon #4.
3) Get a freshly caught Pokémon and make it Pokémon #3.
4) Go into the entrance of Prof. Elm's lab and save.
5) Step out, walk four steps east so you're below the first tree, then listen to Bellsprout or Machop's cry, go into the items pack, switch items pockets (this may be essential), then use the Coin Case.
