Update: December 11, 2016 - Giveaway Extended, Changes on the Channel, NEED YOUR INPUT!
18Hey Guys, it’s TheBattleProductions! Welcome to my update video for December 11, 2016. I apologize for the lack of videos the previous week. I was planning to get more Sun out, but got sick and it is taking forever to go away. The first few days I just had a sore throat, and then it turned into a really bad cold after that. I apologize if my voice sounds awful. This will probably be a few takes put together. I was going to announce the winner to my code card giveaway yesterday, but I am extending the giveaway until Tuesday, December 13. I dropped the ball on getting that video out, so I am extending it a few more days to make up for it. If you haven’t joined the giveaway yet for the evolutions code cards, go check it out!
Now, here is the reason why I am doing this update video. YouTube’s new algorithm for search results. In my giveaway video, I mentioned a rumor where YouTube was changing their algorithm from estimated minutes watched to user interaction. It turns out, it was true. When you search up Evolutions code card giveaway, our giveaway hits the top of the results list. Other ways I have noticed is a plummet in views. My videos don’t get enough interaction, but get a lot of minutes watched since this is a let’s play channel and a card opening channel. My videos tend to be longer. Recently, I have been getting about 3500 views daily. After this change, I only get 1500 views daily.
It is not your guy’s fault. In fact, the majority of my views come from non-subscribed viewers. Now that my videos are not showing up in the results list, people who are not subscribed can’t find as many of my videos. Not sure why YouTube does these changes, but every time they touch their system, they break it even more. Every time at this time of year, they change stuff for the worse going into the new year. It seems to be a tradition for Google.
I am happy with all of the people who are in the community and joined this year. I am thankful for you guys. However, to keep this community strong, we need to make some minor changes to the channel. This is what I want to implement. I am deciding either to do a comment question of the day, our Pokemon Joke of the Day (like in the Uranium LP), or do a 1 question Pokemon quiz at the beginning of each video. It is like hitting two birds with one stone because this helps increase interaction with the community, and it can potentially grow the community. Next, for TCG openings, I would like to implement either quizzes about the TCG, and/or have you guys guess how many EX’s I pull in each opening and even let me know what was your favorite pull in that opening’s video (of course put spoilers in the comment, so people don’t see it). Now, for likes, I would like to implement a goal for likes on each video. I feel that comments are more important to me than the like/dislike ratio, but it would still help with our channel growth. Let me know what you guys think on this. This is important.
Lastly, if you have a Twitter account, be sure to follow me at TheBattlePro! I post a ton on there like polls for future videos and I post updates on when videos are getting out on the channel. Plus, I am planning to do a lot of livestreams in the future, so if you want a heads up on when I stream, I’ll post when I am. Of course I will be posting on YouTube when I am streaming, but YouTube sometimes likes to unsubscribe Users from my channel or just not post the video in your feed.
