In this video I explain howto setup a different version of OBS that is using the GPU (R9 280X) to render a frame instead of the CPU doing all the work. I know the quality of GPU rendering is not the same as CPU rendering and this version of OBS is still full of bugs, but it might help you out if you are having trouble recording with your CPU.
