I started making this video as a lament for the PC I built for outside broadcasts on Off The Chart Radio (OTC), and then left on a shelf for seven years. In my head, I was saving it for outside broadcasts, so that it would be ready to go out-of-the-box, and I didn't want to tinker with it. But the last outside broadcast I did was seven years ago, and Off The Chart Radio closed a year later.

By the time I got into the guts of this video, though, Off The Chart Radio was back! Because of the lockdown, the station manager and several ex-DJs came together to relaunch the station as a pop-up version. Not only has the "outside broadcast PC" been reappropriated as a work PC during the working day, but it's also a capable PC for the behind-the-scenes video streams I've been running during my radio shows on OTC. However, it only had 4GB of RAM, 3GB of which was being used to keep the operating system and background processes ticking over. So I set to work on giving it an upgrade, and even though I'm not a gamer, I ended up with very fancy gaming RAM as it was actually the cheapest option I found, much to my surprise.

The video as a whole has turned into a half-reminisce, half-tutorial video on how to look up the RAM you need for your PC to give it a similar performance boost. Many people may be a bit terrified to go into the innards of their PC, but upgrading RAM is such an easy, worthwhile, and relatively cheap way of making a significant difference to your PC.

Anything I've left out? Anything you would like me to have explained more/better? Let me know in the comments! If/when lockdown is finally over, I may remake this video to take out the lockdown-specific references, and so I'll include your suggestions when I do.

Note: I haven't been asked (or been paid) to endorse any of the companies or products mentioned in this video. The content of this video is purely based on my personal experience of upgrading my PC.
