5,141In response to HAMAS mass ambush of ~1000 Israeli civilians and IDF forces on the 50th anniversary of the Yom Kippur War, the President of the United States on the recommendation of Secretary of Defense has ordered the USS Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group to the Eastern Med.
The USS Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group (CSG) is a formidable and flexible instrument of power projection. It offers a wide range of capabilities that can address the full spectrum of maritime security missions, from deterrence and power projection to maritime security operations, humanitarian assistance, and disaster response.
Power Projection:
Fixed-Wing Aircraft: A Ford-class aircraft carrier typically carries a complement of around 65-75 aircraft, primarily composed of F/A-18 Super Hornets or F-35C Lightning II stealth fighters. These aircraft can strike ground targets, engage enemy aircraft, and perform electronic warfare.
Helicopters: MH-60R Seahawk helicopters can perform anti-submarine warfare (ASW), anti-surface warfare (ASUW), surveillance, search and rescue, and vertical replenishment.

MH-60S helicopters equipped with the Airborne Laser Mine Detection System (ALMDS) and the Airborne Mine Neutralization System (AMNS) can detect and neutralize sea mines.
