Using Minecraft as a Video Player EXPERIMENT
1. Video is exported to a sequence of frames (with increased saturation and contrast)
2. Frames are loaded into Minecraft and used as a texture for a big quad (the screen)
3. Colors are transformed from RGB to blocks using Octree and Nearest Neighbor algorithm
4. Once the frame is "rendered" in Minecraft a screenshot is taken
5. Screenshots are compiled back into the video in the editor.
Adding a bit of blur (or squinting your eyes) helps to eliminate "blockiness" of the image. The final video looks very silimar to the original footage but with severely reduced color (~16 million colors reduced to 48 blocks)
