Valis The Fantasm Soldier Nintendo Switch playthrough
This is a playthrough I had been wanting to do for awhile, but held off on doing it since I wanted to include something special by actually including a translation for the dialogue. Surprise surprise we actually have an official sanctioned one via the Valis collection so no time like the present!
You have no idea how nice it is to see the opening and not have the audio desync for the portion when it starts raining. Since no matter the emulator it always bugged out for some of the cutscenes. At any rate, I surprised myself with how well I did in the game. The only really useful abilities in the game are C and technically S. But I main C for the duration. And I only use shield near the end game sorta since it can carry on through as long as you avoid damage as much as possible.
It's really something to finally understand the story of this version, since some of it is mildly similar to the Sega Genesis release, but there's more substance due to the bosses now being able to be understood. And shockingly enough, most don't seem to actually get along with each other and are more than glad that Yuko does away with them. I'm pretty stunned, but it does provide some foreshadowing.
Most of the boss fights are pretty simple once you understand their patterns, but perhaps the most annoying boss until you manage to manipulate him just so is the mid boss before Reiko. While his slash wave is easy enough to avoid, it's when he turns into a flaming skull that he becomes a pain. The tricky is to get as far left to the screen as possible, and jump so he stays higher for longer so you can slide away from him, and either jump or slide under him as he reverts back into his knight form. If you do it right he'll be facing the total wrong way.
Maintaining this pattern is crucial, if you try and brute force it like SOMEONE I used to know, you'll get decimated and not have any health for Reiko, or die. A right pain in the butt he is. Even the final battle against Rogles isn't that bad if you know the distance to keep with him to avoid his morning star attack.
Overall, a real solid run here.
