VentureBeat AI Staff writer, Khari Johnson sits down with Dr. Andrew Siemion, Director of UC Berkeley's #SETI Research Center to discuss how they leveraged commercial off-the-shelf (#COTS) approaches to machine learning (#ML) such as consumer GPUs and artificial intelligence (#AI) to look at existing data in new ways. By using the same techniques that internet companies use to optimize search engine results and classify images, the research team was able apply machine learning to scour over 400 terabytes of data to detect signals missed by classical algorithms.
