Vertexer was a really great game created mostly for the Idya System by Taito company in 1993. This game was very expensive to buy and very rare (rumors says that only 20 games were manufactured in total).

The name is a word coined from "vertex" meaning something like "to set the highest point" (a racer shooting into space and aiming for the top is a "vertexer").

The IA of the game was impressive, some of the pilots hate another ones and they want to crash with them if they're near, some of them runs a lot to get the course record and others run slow but have a great ability for handling.

The first game appeared on Shibuya in a gamecenter with an extravagant layout (to fit with the futuristic design that the IDYA cabinet in which the game was built-in had).

The designer of the game was Mr.T and he was constantly speaking with the development team that he wants a funny game, easy to learn but trap people's attention.

Music was composed by Tamayo Kawamoto that take part in the ZUNTATA Taito Sound Development and composed some other ones as Rayforce or Darius Saga.

This game maybe one of the top notchs ones for his time and maybe inspired some others that were released later.

You can read an article of Vertexer on my forum (in spanish) - http://insertmorecoins.es/foro/arcade2/%28non-emulated-games%29-vertexer-%28taito-1993%29-88/
